Cannabidiol Side Effects – Is CBD Oil the Future of Medical Marijuana?
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a phytochemical compound found in industrial hemp and has been used for decades to help people who suffer from debilitating seizures. Although there is still much research to be done, CBD has shown promise in treating a number of medical conditions including seizures, anxiety, depression, Parkinson’s disease, chronic pain, and nausea. And just recently, it has gained popularity as an alternative treatment for some diseases, including multiple sclerosis (MS), a disorder that affects primarily seniors and children. Recently, there has been renewed interest in CBD due to reports of its efficacy in treating the disease and reports of its safety in human testing.
CBD is one of the compounds that are believed to have the ability to interrupt the epileptic electrical field. He had been trying, unsuccessfully, to find ways to isolate and provide medical grade CBD oil to people suffering from epilepsy.
Because CBD is not yet approved by the FDA, manufacturers of CBD oil are limited in the types of ailments for which they can treat patients. But CBD oil has shown promise in other areas, including the management of some psychological conditions, notably depression. For this reason, many companies have begun marketing pharmaceutical CBD under the name “complimentary herbal supplements.” While CBD may not have the immediate medical approval of prescription drugs, there are growing numbers of people who are switching to CBD as an alternative treatment for a variety of ailments.
There are two main types of CBD oil available. One is the “bath” oil, which you simply inhale like a balloon. The second is the oil that is taken orally. Both are reported to be effective. People have taken CBD oil with alcohol, marijuana, and several other stimulants without apparent harm. But the danger comes from taking too much oil.
Some people do report feeling worse after taking CBD oil. This effect is considered to be caused by the CBD binding with lipids in the blood stream. If you take too much CBD, it could interfere with your body’s natural ability to remove fat from your cells. This is called “flushing out” and can result in a rebound gain of weight. If you are concerned about this possibility, be sure to check with your doctor before beginning a CBD supplement or oil regimen.
The most important thing for people to remember is that CBD should never be abused. If you feel drowsy or “off,” stop taking it immediately. The best way to determine how “high” you are feeling is to keep a diary of your symptoms. Once you have established that you are indeed experiencing the CBD side effects that you are worried about, talk to your health care professional about CBD as a possible treatment option. As long as it is used as it is intended, CBD should have no harmful side effects.
